Whole-Body Body Composition

$199

Measures fat mass, lean mass and regional body composition. Useful for baseline assessment, weight-loss tracking, body recomposition and monitoring lean tissue over time.

Includes: whole-body composition report with regional measurements and trend-ready baseline data.

Hip & Spine Bone Density

$300

Diagnostic bone mineral density assessment of the lumbar spine and hip, with T-score and Z-score reporting when appropriate for osteoporosis and osteopenia evaluation.

Includes: hip and lumbar-spine BMD measurements with a physician-readable diagnostic report.

Most Comprehensive

Complete DEXA Assessment

$399

Combines whole-body body composition with diagnostic hip and spine bone-density testing for a broader assessment of body composition and bone health.

Includes: both report types in one visit for patients who want body-composition and bone-health measurements together.

What DEXA Can Measure

DEXA uses low-dose X-ray technology to answer different questions depending on the study ordered. Whole-body composition evaluates fat and lean tissue distribution. Diagnostic bone-density studies measure bone mineral density at clinically relevant sites such as the hip and lumbar spine.

Results should be interpreted in the context of the reason for testing, medical history, medications and other clinical information.

Medical Weight Loss & Lean Mass

Scale weight cannot distinguish fat loss from lean-tissue loss. For patients undergoing medical weight-loss treatment, including GLP-1 therapy when clinically appropriate, repeat body-composition testing can document changes over time.

Menopause, Hormone Care & Bone Health

Bone-density testing may be appropriate when age, menopause, medications, medical history or other risk factors raise concern about bone loss. A DEXA result does not by itself determine whether hormone therapy or osteoporosis treatment is appropriate.

See What Your DEXA Report Can Show

GE HealthCare reporting can present bone-density and body-composition results in patient-friendly formats. The examples below show the types of measurements a report may contain; your actual report depends on the scan performed and the software options available on the system.

Region: AP Spine / Femur
BMD: g/cm²
T-score: comparison with young-adult reference
Z-score: age-matched comparison
Classification: reported when clinically applicable

A diagnostic report may include lumbar-spine and hip BMD, T-scores, Z-scores and classification information when appropriate. These measurements are interpreted together with age, fracture history, medications and other clinical risk factors.

Whole-body composition reporting can show total and regional fat mass, lean mass, bone mineral content and percent body fat, including arms, legs and trunk. GE reporting can also trend measurements over time. Some advanced measures, such as estimated visceral adipose tissue, require optional software and are not included unless that capability is available on the installed system.

DEXA Scan FAQs

Current self-pay pricing is $199 for whole-body body composition, $300 for diagnostic hip and spine bone density, and $399 for the combined assessment.
No. Whole-body body composition focuses on fat and lean tissue distribution, while diagnostic bone-density studies focus on bone mineral density at clinically relevant sites such as the hip and lumbar spine.
The interval depends on why the scan was performed. Body-composition scans may be repeated to track meaningful changes over time. Diagnostic bone-density testing intervals should be individualized according to clinical circumstances and prior results.
DEXA bone-density results are an important part of osteoporosis evaluation, but diagnosis and treatment decisions also depend on age, fracture history, medications, clinical risk factors and the sites measured.
